LG KV6000 Luxury Phone

cetizen has some pictures of another chocolate phone designed by LG. The new chocolate phone LG has a code name of KV-6000, it is not yet announced for GSM network yet. The KV-6000 continue the black body design, but mix with gold/Platinum layer. It has the same "Infrared Sensor" button to let you activate the button by just touching the sensor. This is the third chocolate phone we saw on the web. The official announced chocolate phone is the LG-KG800 (KV5900). LG introduces the KV6000, a luxury slider phone with gold/platinum accents and an "infrared sensor" which activates the keypad when pressed. It features a brilliant QVGA display, 1.3-megapixel camera, 512MB of internal memory, and a slim design. Pricing and availability have not yet been announced. It has the similar feature as KV5900 with a QVGA screen, 1.3 megapixel camera (yeah we hope it can be better) and 512MB memory.

Palm Treo Pro: Beautiful Inside and Out

Yeah, today’s the big launch for the 3G iPhone locally, but let’s veer away from all the Apple festivities for a moment and look at what Palm has in store for use.

The Palm Treo Pro is the latest smartphone from Palm; and just by looking at it, one can see that the Treo is back with a vengeance. It sports a new plush look and is now thinner, and smaller than its predecessor without cutting back on functionality. It’s got 3.5G connectivity, a 2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, a touch screen display, GPS, a very reliable 1500 mAh battery, and runs on Windows Mobile 6.1.

Gizmodo is lucky enough to get one for a hands-on review and according to them; it is definitely a step up from its ancestors. They keypad is similar to the Centro, but a bit bigger. The display is bright and crisp, while 3G internet and call quality is superb. Best of all, Palm has decided to offer this baby minus a carrier (read: unlocked) unlike the iPhone.

Availability and price, unfortunately, isn’t available yet; but we are certainly keeping our eyes peeled on this one.

Samsung’s dual-SIM phone - Take Two!

In the Philippines, most mobile phone users now carry two mobile phones because one TelCo decided to give unlimited call and text messaging services.This gave users the freedom to chat more which they can’t do with their previous mobile carriers.Last year, China produced a mobile phone that can carries two SIM cards. This seemed an advantage to locals since it eliminates the use of two mobile phone units. These "dual-SIM" capable phones became an instant trend in the Philippines.But the durability of these dual-SIM phones became an issue.Then Samsung came up with their own dual-SIM mobile phone. The first dual-SIM phone from Samsung was the D880 Duos, and now comes the D780.Although a bit big in size, and a bit heavy, too, the D780 is slim that’s solid to the touch. This, in my opinion is a a plus since most China-made, dual-SIM phones are constructed with materials that are less durable than those made by branded phones.The D780 has a 2.1-inch LCD and has a keypad that feels just right as you use it. Same goes for the navigation keypad and the selection keys. It has 2-Megapixel camera at the back of the phone while its dedicated camera button is located at the phone’s right side.Below the camera button is the charger/handsfree port. On the left side is where the volume button, the SIM management button, and the microSD card slot. Look at the bottom side of the phone and you see the phone’s built-in speaker.Behind the battery, you see two SIM card slots where you can use either one or both. Once your SIM cards are in, turning on the phone will prompt you to register or assign names for each SIM card so always take note which is which.From here, the phone displays the active SIM cards at the bottom middle of the standby screen and you’’ll continue to see this unless there’s no signal for the carriers. Pressing down on the navigation keypad and the contact list will be displayed.On this menu, you’ll see that a contact is stored on SIM 1 or SIM 2 as indicated on the bottom portion of the screen. Try to dial a few numbers and what the phone does is it displays the contacts that contain them.Apart from capable of carrying two SIM cards, the D780 has a lot more to offer. It has a 2-Megapixel camera, with 1600x1200 resolution that can take photos and videos. It can play MP3 audio files as well as a built-in FM radio.Not to miss out is the phone’s simple organizer that has a calendar where you can appointments, dates, anniversaries, etc. There’s also the document viewer which is quite handy in case you need to view document files such as Excel or Word. And the addittion of a PDF viewer makes the D780 more versatile.I almost forgot about the voice recorder which is a good alternative for taking down notes.In case you want to be entertained (if the music player and the camera were not enough), you can play the several pre-installed games.The one thing that bothers me with this phone is when you are changing the primary SIM. Although you don’t have to take out the battery and switch the two SIM cards (all you have to do is press the SIM management button), the phone will restart automatically.There are some China-made phones that may outshine the D780 in its dual SIM feature (plus some). But to also consider durability and style, my vote would go to Samsung. The Duos D780 is not an entirely new breakthrough in the mobile phone world but it definitely gets the job done.

Sony unveils S-AIR iPod Dock Wireless System

While Sony maybe known in the industry as a staunch advocate of proprietary technology, they’ve decided to go against the grain this time around with the release of the S-AIR wireless audio system.

It not only provides you with a sleek and stylish wireless speaker system, it’s also an iPod dock which is a first for the company. The standard package comes with the dock that also features a built-in FM/AM tuner and two wireless speakers that can receive signals up to 164-feet away. It’ll cost around $400 when it lands in stores next month in the US. It’s definitely more expensive than the EOS wireless system, but this one’s got tons of sex appeal written all over it. Additional speakers will cost $130 a piece (the same with the EOS).

No word though whether it will become locally available or not, but I’m pretty optimistic it will.

T-Mobile to Sell the iPhone for 1 Euro

If you don’t like how AT&T is going about the whole 3G iPhone business then ask someone in Europe to get one for you! T-Mobile is offering it in Germany for only 1 Euro. That’s about $1.53 more than what O2 is charging in the UK for the same handset.

What’s the catch? If you choose to buy one you will also have to opt in for T-Mobile’s most expensive plan which comes to 89 Euro or $136. That comes to 2136 Euro, or $3 277 for a two year plan. Should you choose the cheapest monthly plan, which comes to 29 Euro or $44, you will pay 169 Euro or $259 for the iPhone itself. T-Mobile haven’t change their plans for the iPhone and they are offering exactly the same things they did for the first iPhone.(more)

In the middle of the iPhone madness from the last few days, a little phone we have been keeping our eyes on suddenly slipped through the cracks with a spec announcement: The Samsung Omnia cellphone is now the real deal. And guess what? It’s a feature-packed bundle that seems to have taken the Windows Mobile platform and made it manageable and even kinda attractive.

Of course, the real truth will come out when we receive this one and put it through the review wringer. Let's look at the specs provided:

It includes a five-megapixel camera (with an image stabilizer, and face and smile detection), DivX, XviD, WMV and MP4 video compatibility, and GPS as well (ah-hah). Maybe more of the main GPS unit manufacturers will get on the mobile phone craze by lending out the software.

The display is not a stretch at this point, with only a 3.2” LCD. We’d been hoping for the first OLED coming out from this one. It also has video with six different types of audio capabilities, Bluetooth-, USB-, Wi-Fi- capable, and is microSDHC- compatible.

The unit will be available by the fall (at least), and should run close to the other high-end cell phones (over $500), unless Samsung figures out that that might be a little too expensive against the iPhone 3G and can start a massive subsidizing program to catch up.

3G Enhances M-learning

Mobile learning has been around for a while; it refers to the idea of lifelong learning under the guidance of the use of mobile communications devices such as mobile phones, PDA, MP4 and handheld e-book reader devices. With the acceleration of the 3G technology, mobile learning really enables learners to learn at anytime they want and anywhere they want. From Twitter to iPhone, mobile learning has taken a giant step forward. Today on the bus I saw a student checking the discussion board in her WebCT course and posted comments right away. She might have just earned 1% of participation mark for that class! Of course not every student could afford a $500 iphone and $80 monthly cell phone plans with 3G mobile internet access. But I truly believe the yet expensive data plans will soon be lowered just like how the voice plans have been dropped for cell phone users.

What’s happening around the world on mobile learning?

In Europe:

There are government funded research projects on using the portable mobile devices to provide information and learning content to enable learning for those whom are unable to participate in school. The learning content focuses on the interesting topics of the young generation such as soccer, music, etc., as well as to develop their language ability and mathematical knowledge.

In the United States:

Stanford University Learning Lab (SLL) believes that by helping us to stay connected with each the web, the mobile devices today are helping us to fill up the "debris" time. They have developed mobile based language learning modules that involves vocabulary memorization, self tests, repeating excises and much more. They also studies how are these mobile content helping the learners to achieve a better mark in schools.

In Asia:

Mobile devices are much more popular in some Asian countries than in North America. Their 3G network is also more advanced than other part of the world. Asian learners are already using their mobile devices to access rich media based learning contents such as video, audio and flash based learning tools.

SONY ERICSSON BLACK DIAMOND

Sony Ericsson Black Diamond is referred to as the new black book. This high end 4 mega pixel phone is cased in a layer of polycarbonate with mirror finish cladding. The OLED technology makes for vivid illumination under the polycarbonate skin and gives it a borderless screen effect.

A 'Storm'y Launch for BlackBerry

With all of their new product launches and a growing smartphone market, the future looks very bright for Research in Motion (RIMM). However, a recent ChangeWave survey took a close look the immediate outlook of the smartphone market as well as the reaction of 61 BlackBerry Storm owners. The overall satisfaction rating given by new owners of the BlackBerry Storm can be characterized as lukewarm, at best.

And of course, in the never ending effort to stoke the flame of the RIM -- Apple (AAPL) war, ChangeWave compared the results with a similar survey of new owners of the original iPhone, which was conducted in July 2007.
