Trying to sell boatloads of inexpensive phones to China and India hasn't been working too wellfor cellular handset makers, so perhaps pricey is the future after all. If so, it's a shame that so many luxury phones involve little more than the ill-considered addition of rare metals and expensive gemstones to boring, lackaday handset designs.
